Separation Anxiety

Description:

One or any combination of the following: barking, whining, howling, chewing, digging, urinating, deficating, vomiting, running, pacing, searching, or salivating following owner's departure. Common targets of chewing or scratching are doors, door frames, material, clothing, and furniture. Some dogs will attempt to prevent owners from leaving by blocking doorways or becoming aggressive. Separation anxiety is considered to be a panic-like distress response to separation from owners, not motivated in any way by spite or revenge.

Treatment:

Treatment may involve management, medication, and/or a behaviour modification program based upon systematic desensitization. Punishment should be avoided. Description:

Active or passive avoidance / escape response reliably elicited by specific objects or events.

Description:
